Provincial Women’s Initiative
The Provincial Women’s Initiative focuses on addressing gender equity and identify and create a plan to address and ultimately work towards eliminating the systemic barriers to empowering Indigenous women for stronger communities. This initiative consists of 4 keys activities:
- Communication and Resource Development focused on developing, supporting or promoting programs that address violence against women and focus on the systemic barriers that support the environment of violence;
- Networking and partnership building opportunities between women in leadership roles, Friendship Centres, organizations and individual Indigenous women seeking empowerment;
- Partnering with Lac La Biche Native Friendship Centre in the development, implementation, evaluation and promotion of an Indigenous Women’s Empowerment program;
- Incorporating cultural values and teachings into mainstream thought process with respect to addressing systemic barriers impeding Indigenous women’s success and leadership.
A Provincial Women’s Advisory Committee has been struck to guide us in the above activities and help broaden our vision to recognize the regional perspectives.
